My native home, Benin City, Nigeria, is renowned for centuries of culturally expressive art, with a noble tradition of bronze portraiture and relief sculpture. The creative heritage has deeply impacted me. My formal art training, which began in Nigeria and continues here in the United States, uses the Benin Kingdom legacy as inspiration. My art is contemporary, though, having been described as by others as "profoundly socially conscious." Art gives me life. The art I make is not solely for the aesthetics, but for spiritual enrichment.

My ideal world is peaceful and serene. It does not leave out the reality of the world today, however. I am a long-time resident of New York City. Most of my work is reflected in the myriad socio-economic groups from the world over who co-exist here.

What the viewer sees in my work are slices of daily life among people mostly of the African Diaspora. I employ a variety of media to express mostly political and socially conscious themes. My concern for social issues is further illustrated in Africana Outreach, Inc., the  not-for-profit organization I founded in 1995.
